Proud to Be Me CIC’s Hair & Beauty Department enables alternative provisions, schools and other youth settings to commission specialist hair and beauty learning for their learners through our existing infrastructure.
Rather than every organisation needing to develop its own salon, equipment, curriculum and specialist capacity, learners can access our professional learning environment while remaining connected to their referring provision.
What learners can develop
Hair and beauty provides an engaging route into much more than practical treatments. Depending on the learner and pathway, young people can develop skills in hair and beauty techniques, client consultation, customer service, communication, product knowledge, salon reception, appointment and booking systems, stock management, professional standards, salon operations, marketing, content creation, employability, enterprise and financial awareness.
Learning in a professional environment
Our infrastructure gives learners the opportunity to experience the expectations and routines of a working salon environment. Practical learning can be combined with portfolio development, industry knowledge and progression towards relevant training or qualifications where appropriate.
A pathway, not just a workshop
The Hair & Beauty Department is designed to help learners explore whether the industry could form part of their future. Progression can include further specialist learning, qualifications, employment, self-employment or enterprise within hair, beauty and related creative industries.

This offer is particularly useful for provisions that want to broaden their vocational curriculum without creating a complete hair and beauty department themselves.
Who can commission the department?
The department is designed for alternative provisions, schools, SEND settings and other organisations that want their learners to access specialist vocational hair and beauty through Proud to Be Me CIC’s infrastructure. The referring organisation retains responsibility for its learner while we deliver the agreed commissioned provision.
Building the right learner pathway
Not every learner needs the same outcome. Before delivery, we can discuss the learner’s age, starting point, interests, support needs and progression goals. Their pathway can then focus on practical industry experience, employability, portfolio development and, where suitable, progression towards an appropriate hair or beauty qualification.
What our infrastructure provides
Commissioners can access an established professional salon learning environment rather than having to source their own specialist room, equipment and delivery model. Provision can draw on professional salon facilities, practical equipment and resources, specialist hair and beauty expertise, curriculum resources, industry expectations and quality-assurance processes relevant to the agreed pathway.
Evidence & progression
Learners can build evidence through practical activities, observation, portfolio work, client consultation, professional behaviours and other appropriate learning evidence. Progress can be shared with the referring provision to support reviews and progression planning.
